During an interview given to "La Voce di Padre Pio" in March 2008, Cardinal Carlo Caffarra (1938-2017), Archbishop of Bologna in Italy from 2003 to 2015, reported that when he founded the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family, he wrote a letter to Sister Lucia dos Santos, the last survivor of the three seers of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima in Portugal in 1917, through his bishop. "To my surprise," he said, "I received just a few days later an autographed letter from Sister Lucia. She wrote:
"Father, a time will come when the decisive battle between the kingdom of Christ and Satan will be over marriage and the family. And those who will work for the good of the family will experience persecution and tribulation. But do not be afraid, because Our Lady has already crushed his head."
