Sacred Heart of JesusSacred Heart of MaryAt the National Prayer Breakfast in Lima, Peru on Friday, October 21, 2016, the nation’s president, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, consecrated the country, his family and himself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Here is the text of that prayer:

“I, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of the Republic of Peru, by the authority that has been given to me, consecrate my person, my family, my wife who is here present, and the Republic of Peru to the love and protection of Almighty God through the intercession of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“I place in his loving hands my government with all of its workers and citizens for whom I am responsible. I offer to Almighty God my thoughts and decisions as President so that he might use them for the good of our country and so that I might always be conscious of the Ten Commandments in governing it.

“I ask God that, through the intercession of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, He might hear and accept my act of consecration and cover our country with His special protection.

“In making this petition I ask the forgiveness of God for all of the transgressions that I have committed in the past, all that have been committed in the past of the Republic, and all of those decisions that have been made that are opposed to His Commandments, and I ask for His help to change everything that separates us from Him.

“I, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, as President of the Republic of Peru, declare this solemn oath before God and the citizens of our country, today, the twenty-first of October of 2016. Amen.”

Of the 21 prayer breakfasts that have been held in Peru, this is the first time a president has attended. The theme chosen for this year was “The Mercy of the Love of God” in accordance with the Year of Mercy called for by Pope Francis.
