One does not dress any more, one undresses

Clothing was made to ennoble, not to seduce

Modesty is a politically incorrect subject today, invoking fear that someone will be offended if it is raised. Nevertheless, it is a subject of great importance as it concerns the salvation of souls. The Catechism of the Catholic Church notes that the Ninth Commandment states: You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. Our Lord added (Matthew 5:28): “Everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” In the chapter on the 9th Commandment, under the The Battle for Purity, one reads the following (p. 2251-2254):

“Purity requires modesty, an integral part of temperance. Modesty protects the intimate center of the person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden. It is ordered to chastity to whose sensitivity it bears witness. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity.

“Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love. It encourages patience and moderation in loving relationships; it requires that the conditions for the definitive giving and commitment of man and woman to one another be fulfilled. Modesty is decency. It inspires one’s choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

“There is a modesty of the feelings as well as of the body. It protests, for example, against the voyeuristic explorations of the human body in certain advertisements, or against the solicitations of certain media that go too far in the exhibition of intimate things. Modesty inspires a way of life which makes it possible to resist the allurements of fashion and the pressures of prevailing ideologies.

“The forms taken by modesty vary from one culture to another. Everywhere, however, modesty exists as an intuition of the spiritual dignity proper to man. It is born with the awakening consciousness of being a subject. Teaching modesty to children and adolescents means awakening in them respect for the human person.”

Modesty in dress is a subject that must be taken seriously and especially put into practice! Here is an article on the subject written in 1963 by Mrs. Gilberte Côté-Mercier.

A Change of Morals

My dear friends, my sisters, women and young girls of my time, I ask you to dispose yourself toward charity before reading and not to condemn my words in advance. Please, generously open your heart.

First, let us look around us on this fine summer day, on the street and on lawns, balconies, cities and the countryside; let us look at people. How are they dressed? It is shocking. Our contemporaries do not dress; they undress.

What a change from the past! My father, who has been dead for the past 50 years, had never seen anything like this. If he were to come back today he would have a terrible fit of anger. Then seeing his powerlessness to change anything, he would cry even though he was not a man who cried easily or often. He would be afraid of people in their state of undress; he would also be ashamed on their behalf. Your fathers and grandfathers who have passed, would they not react like my own father? What do you think, my friend?

As I said, one does not dress any more; one undresses. Fashion’s goal has always been to clothe women in the most elegant and decent way for the occasion. Today’s goal is undressing, albeit without clashing too much with the demands and expectations of social life.

This represents a radical change in morality. Formerly, men and women had their bodies covered in public. Today, they show themselves with uncovered bodies. This changes social relations, contact between people, and has moral consequences.

Formerly, we saw each other as reasonable individuals ruled by the spirit with the body presenting a discreet elegance. Both business dealings and contact with friends was guided by this spirit. One shook hands, looked at a beautiful face, intelligent eyes, an innocent smile, and sometimes tears. The head led the body and was the subject of interest; the body was the docile servant of the head.

This has changed. When one meets an undressed individual, the face receives a fleeting glance. The rest fascinates and mesmerizes. Anyone claiming the contrary is lying. A normal person is uneasy when looking at someone undressed. A normal person acts bashful,or lets himself look and then feels degraded. The spirit is submerged by the flesh. Honest souls are appalled and shocked by the insolent provocation of a person undressed, even if they dare say nothing out loud.

There are consequences: social relations become a source of decadence rather than a source of light. Thoughts are degraded. Sex becomes an obsession for youth and adults. The corruption is palpable with social decay the fruit. All personal and social life is changed because women undress themselves. Customs have indeed changed for the worse.

We are seeing not only a change in customs but also a change in the way of life; a change in the very conception of life, philosophy, morality, and consequently, even a change in our relations with God.

This radical change was accomplished gradually by following the current fashion. We have not for a moment stopped to consider why our fathers and mothers dressed rather than undressed. We can say that our forebears dressed because they knew that, since the sin of Adam, the body must be covered in order that the soul occupy the position which is due a woman in her personal and social life. To dress is the mark of the civilized person. Savages go naked; civilized people dress. Unless we are only pretending to be civilized, why do we undress in public?

Satan wills it

I hope that the cynicism of fashion designers, and of their minions, will not make them say that “God wills it”. No, it is not God who wills today’s fashions; it is the devil himself who wills it. The Freemasons say: “Thy kingdom come, Master Satan!” And Satan’s kingdom is established, in large part, through fashions.

Read a few more documents, my dear friends. In May 1928, Freemasonry delivered the following message to its lodges around the world:

“Religion does not fear the dagger’s point; but she can collapse under the weight of corruption. Let us never tire to corrupt. Let us use, as pretext, sports, hygiene, the climatic cure. It is necessary to corrupt [so] that our boys and girls practice nudism in clothing. So as to avoid reaction, we will have to go forward methodically. First as far as the middle of the arm. Next as far as the knee. Afterwards arms and legs uncovered completely. Later on the upper part of the chest, the shoulders, etc., etc...”

An American magazine, The French Woman, 50 years ago published the following:

“Our children have to realize the ideal of nudity. In this way the child’s mentality will be quickly transformed. So as to avoid opposition, progress should be methodically graduated: firstly, nudity of the feet and legs, next the sleeve turned inside out; later on, the upper part of the chest, then the back. In summer, they will stroll about almost naked.”

A communist Manual, presented the rules for world revolution:

“Corrupt the youth, get them interested in sex.”

Do not today’s fashions marvellously realize the agenda of corrupting youth?

It is obvious that near nudist fashions are part of Satan’s conspiracy to corrupt the world. Newspapers and television enter into the conspiracy. Advertising offers endless provocation. The propaganda is deceitful, venomous, even. On August 3, 1959, a Quebec journal published an article which seemed straightforward but which subtly celebrated airline hostesses wearing shorts:

“When the airline announced the change in costume, the hostesses and crew uttered cries of outrage and protest. But the president of the company insisted. And a representative of the company said that those who would be obstinate would probably be transferred into offices. The reaction of most passengers is favourable and respectful. The reaction of personnel at the airport is equally favourable. A watchman at Idlewild [JFK airport] cast a glance at a few of us (hostesses) coming out of an airplane the other day and he exclaimed: That is the best story to happen here since they built the new airport.”

Are you disgusted, dear friends, to hear this? Do you understand, as I do, that they are inspired by the devil? What is the bottom line, I ask you. What can possibly be the goal of those who are determined to undress people? Their passion, their very rage indicates that they are possessed by the devil, the father of sin.

The devil is pulling off a master stroke. Just think, he carries off an incomparable victory: making Catholics, who still act as if they believe in the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to lose the sense of sin.

Here are words from Pope Pius XII, a herald for a better world:

“How many young girls are there, today, who do not even see any more the evil there is in following without shame certain fashions! They would surely be ashamed if they knew the thoughts which they evoke by this immodest, public flaunting. How loose have consciences become and how pagan are morals!”

Yes, my friends, it is the devil himself who is behind the immorality of fashions.

Our Lady of Fatima

In 1917, the Most Holy Virgin Mary appeared to three small children at Fatima, Portugal and told them:

“Certain fashions will be launched which will offend Our Lord very much.” And, “The sins which lead the most souls into hell are the sins of the flesh.”

Immodesty of clothing causes the sin of the flesh which throws souls into hell and ruins people on earth. It really is Satan who is the creator of these fashions!

To close, here is a chapter from the magazine of the Assumptionist Fathers of Sillery, Quebec:

“I have seen Satan. I have seen him in women innumerable, of flesh and bones, who Christian or pagan, but seditious and scandalous, pass on the street. [They] live at home among their children, presenting themselves as spectacles, decked with undressed clothing named “temptation” by shopkeepers: indecent short clothing, dresses and shorts, the daring low-necked garments, the complete nudity of arms and legs, the transparent clothing and garments so tight that they seem to be made to put more into view than what they should be hiding. One word summarizes them: immodesty.

“These people, whether they know it or not, are living devils who scandalize men and children. Clothing is not made to seduce, but to ennoble. It should make the ones who wear it beautiful and not ridiculous and disgusting in the eyes of whoever is still sound [of mind]...”

Why, instead of dressing, do people undress themselves today? It is the will of Satan, that is why.
