The core of Communism

on Saturday, 01 April 1961. Posted in Communism

The Communists feel that people must not be left free to solve their own problems, and to make whatever "progress they can manage, and to develop whatever way of life is possible for them. Communists feel that within a nation, the power of government should be used to determine what is "welfare" and "progress" and to dictate the standard of living. Communists feel that, among nations, there should be constant agitation ("educational activities") and redistribution of wealth ("assistance for the economic and social development") until all nations have developed virtually identical socialist systems.

The Dan Smoot Report, October 3, 1960

The Revival of Civilization

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind independent of the one prevalent among the crowd and in opposition to it, a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. It is only an ethical movement which can rescue us from the slough of barbarism, and the ethical comes into being only in individuals."

Albert SCHWEITZER, in The Diary and Restoration of Civilization, as quoted in The New Times, January, 61
