A Message from Bishop Desmarais

on Saturday, 01 October 1949. Posted in Social Credit apostolate

On the occasion of celebrating mass in the arena at Amos during the recent congress there, the officiating priest, Father Lamoureux, read the following message, which brought great satisfaction to the hearts of all present and certainly will be a source of joy to all those of our mem- bers who read this message. It was from His Excellency, Monsignor Desmarais, Bishop of Amos.

To all the members of the Union of Electors gathered in congress at Amos, Sunday, September 6, 1959

My very dear brethren,

His Excellency, Monsignor Desmarais, Bishop of Amos, has asked me to pass on to you a message of benediction and peace at the beginning of this Mass which he has so graciously permitted in order to accomodate you, here in the vast arena of this town.

------------------------

It gives us great pleasure to draw to the attention of our readers, this message of benediction and peace to our movement from a churchman, eminent in ecclesiastical circles. The approbation of the church is something which is and should be, very dear to the heart of everyone who supports the principles, not only of our movement but of Social Credit in general. For the principles of Social Credit, as, ennunciated by the founder of Social Credit, are deeply Christian. Starting as they do with the spirituality of the individual and his divine destiny, they must of necessity always be in accord with the purely spiritual teachings of the church, regardless of how technical they may become where finance and economics are concerned.

Our movement, the Union of Electors, has always striven to keep before the eyes of its members the principle that man is endowed with an immortal soul by the Creator, that he is destined ultimately for God in the next life. Any movement, until very well known, is apt to be looked upon with something like suspicion by those entrusted with the care of souls. And perhaps rightly so. For this reason, it is with great joy that we received the friendly words from His Excellency, Monsignor Desmarais, Bishop of Amos.
