in memory of Mr. Yvon Nantel

Written by Melvin Sickler on Friday, 30 September 2016. Posted in Obituaries

Yvon NantelYvon Nantel, of Toronto, who died on October 29, 2016 at the age of 52, had been a full-time Pilgrim of Saint Michael for 14 years. He did tours of apostolate in Western Canada and Ontario with other full-time pilgrims, in Ireland with Miss Evelyn Ward, and in the United States with Melvin Sickler, an American full-time pilgrim. He was a man who loved to chat and talk, always with a smile; a guy you could not but help to like. He was an excellent speaker, and people liked to listen to him speak at our “Michael” meetings about the issues of the day. With me he especially helped to open up the states of Texas and California to the Work of “Michael”, bringing several new members back to our headquarters in Quebec to attend some of our activities.

When he left as a full-time pilgrim, he remained an active local worker in the Toronto area for several years, giving most of his Saturdays for the “Michael” apostolate. He even paid part of the monthly rent for our “Michael” apartment in Toronto as well as provide food for the full-time missionaries. He was a great asset for our Work in the Toronto area at that time, what we could refer to as being a “pillar” of the Work.

He was devoted to the Rosary, and before holding any “Michael” meetings, he would always have the people recite a five-decade Rosary, and he would always speak on the need for prayer in the families. He always wore the Scapular of Mount Carmel and tried to go to Mass every day. But most important, he had the grace of having a holy death, receiving the Last Sacraments of the Church with fervor. During his illness he recited often the Chaplet of Mercy. When he could no more talk, he took the hand of his father who begin to recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Yvon died at this moment.

Now we will pray to him to assist us spiritually as part of the triumphant Church. Goodbye until we meet again on the other side of the veil.
